Greeks to Have a Busy Spring Semester!

BETHANY W.Va. From the first Fraternity Oscars called ‘Froscars’ to Greek Sing, Campus Clean-up, and many more events, the Greek Community at Bethany College is having one heck of a busy and successful wrap up to their Spring 2017 semester here in little ole’ Bethany.

For the first time in Bethany’s history, the Oscars is coming to campus. Ok, so not exactly the Oscars, but as good as it gets! The Froscars, which stands for Fraternity Oscars, is making its debut on Saturday, April 22 in Commencement Hall. The event is sponsored by the Interfraternity Council and Panhellenic Council - the two governing bodies over the Greek community. This will be a formal event consisting of awards, honoring the class of 2017, a plated dinner, and an opportunity for unity for the Greek Community. One of the awards that will be presented is the winner of Greek Sing, which is the night before the Froscars.

Alumni, Faculty, and Staff are also encouraged to attend the Froscars. To attend, email Nathan Tennant at to learn more information and the cost to attend.

Another Greek event will be the night prior to the Froscars which is the annual Greek Sing. This year it will be held in Wailes Theatre on Friday, April 21. Greek Sing is a competition for the Greek Houses to show off their creative, musical, and many more talents. Each house entered will have 10 minutes to impress the panel of judges. The judges will judge on multiple aspects and a few of the criteria will be things such as; musicality, creativity, etc. Last year's winners were the brothers of Delta Tau Delta and the sisters of Phi Mu. This year will be an exciting night of comradery and songs between the Greek houses and community of Bethany College.

Another event that the Greek houses are partaking in is the Campus Cleanup sponsored by the Sophomore Class Council (SCC). Each Greek house is participating except the sisters of Alpha Xi Delta, since they have a founding ceremony in Pittsburgh, PA that they will be attending to celebrate and honor their founder of their long-standing sorority.

As philanthropy/service being 1 of the 4 Greek pillars, the Greek Community prides themselves in being a part of service events as much as they can. The Greeks will be among athletic teams, clubs, and other organizations cleaning up the campus. The parts of the campus that will be cleaned up include Campbell Village, Greek Hill, main campus, and the area around the Recreational Center.

This event is on Earth Day, Saturday, April 22 from 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM. Earth Day is a day joined by countries all over the world with the mission of “Building the world’s largest environmental movement” according to To learn more go to their website.

These three large, all-Greek events will be an opportunity for service, fun, and bonding for the Greek Community.

Along with these all-Greek events, individual houses will continue with their operations and even some individual events. Such as Phi Mu’s 3-on-3 basketball tournament supporting their philanthropy, Children’s Miracle Network on Sunday, April 2.

Other houses individual events are to be announced.
